BOHDAN SOROKA ART EXHIBIT

In memory of the late Nina Samokish, the Ukrainian National Womens League of America Branch 64 and the Verkhovynky Plast Sorority, New York branch, invite the public to an exhibition of graphics and paintings by Bohdan Soroka from Lviv. At the opening, Jaroslawa Gerulak will introduce the audience to Mr. Sorokas art. The exhibit will close on Sunday at 2 pm with a Meet the Artist event, featuring Mr. Soroka who will discuss his artistic life's path. During the exhibit, composer Volodymyr Tkachenko will perform original piano music inspired by the artwork.

Opening: Friday at 7 pm
Closing program: Sunday at 2 pm
Exhibit hours: Sat-Sun 1-5

The program will include an introduction by Olha Kuzmovych, former editor of Svoboda, readings by actress Larysa Kukrytska and Branch 64 members, as well as celebratory greetings.

VASYL NECHEPA: HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT STATE OF UKRAINE IN SONGS

As this year marks the centennial of the creation of the concert bandura, the St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Ukrainian Art & Literary Club and the New York Bandura Ensemble invite the public to a lecture-concert titled History of the Ancient State of Ukraine in Songs. The featured performer is kobzar-lirnyk Vasyl Nechepa from Chernihiv, a 2006 laureate of the Taras Shevchenko Prize, nominated Best Teacher of the Year of Ukraine (2006) by the Ministry of Education and Scholarship of Ukraine.

NYBE performances are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts
